Beth and I met during our first year of high school in our French 2 class, taught by
Madame Lutz. We had each gone to different junior highs before then, so being the first year
of high school we were all meeting new people!
We became great friends right away and are still going strong all these years later.
Some people are just meant to be vitally important in our lives.
Back then, we didn't take pictures of ourselves constantly, so our pictures of the two of us
are somewhat limited.
This is part of a yearbook photo of the Quill and Scroll - honorary literary society.
I love this picture of us before graduation with our moms!
I'm sure they were both very glad when we got our driver's licences, so they didn't have
to drive us all over town for our fun!
Beth would drive her mom's big brown station wagon, and occasionally her dad's
Camaro convertible, which was a stick shift. When I drove, it was my mom's 1969 Mustang.
We thought we were really hot stuff!!
We went to different universities. She went into medicine, and I began my teaching
career. We were both busy, but managed to stay in touch and get together.
We wrote many letters to each other, sharing our woes and excitement of adult life.
Even when we were in different states we called each other on the phone to catch up.
Even when we were in high school, we had this "thing" about buying and wearing matching clothes!
Beth came up to Lincoln in 1999 for a visit and we went to a Beth Moore conference.
Amazingly enough, we both ended up in Arizona about one year apart! So, six years ago
we decided to have a girls weekend retreat - why we didn't do this sooner is beyond me.
For the first two years, Beth got to see my mom and dad when we would meet in Tucson.
She was there also just three days before my mom passed away.
So this sixth year was much the same as before. Relaxing, watching movies, taking walks around the
beautiful grounds of the La Paloma Resort, sharing our lives, eating out, and generally
just enjoying our long, enduring friendship! With both of us having a deep and personal
relationship with Jesus, our friendship is made stronger than ever.
This year, Beth got to have the fronds coming out of her head...........!
So, another year has passed. We are the same 15 year old giggly girls on the inside, but
much older, wiser, and grayer!
Thanks, Beth, for being my best friend all these years and for the many great memories!
Here's to next year in 2020!
